Ethyl trifluoroacetate is a chemical substance, a colorless liquid, corrosive, toxic, flammable, and responsive to oxidants.
It is obtained by esterification of trifluoroacetic acid with ethanol. After cooling the trifluoroacetic acid, anhydrous ethanol was added under stirring, and the reaction was exothermic. After the exotherm was stopped, concentrated sulfuric acid was slowly added. After heating and refluxing for half an hour, fractional distillation was carried out, and a fraction of 62-64 ° C was collected to obtain ethyl trifluoroacetate. The yield was 94%.
